The Harsen’s Island Ferry will be closed all day Sunday – January 25, 2015, and according to the Clay Township Fire Department, probably through the evening. Several Coast Guard ice cutters are in the area today cutting the South, North, and Middle Channels. The build up of ice is causing the St. Clair River to significantly rise for potential flooding, and we’ve noticed at least a foot drop so far on northern Lake St. Clair.

In other happenings….. Trucks with snowmobile trailers emerged on the ice as early as 8am to get set up for a great day for racing. Enter the ice at the Fair Haven DNR Launch Ramp or the Raft Bar on M29 on Bouvier Bay. Stop by either from the ice or via the road at the Sunset Bay Restaurant a mile past the launch ramp on M29 for great views & specials all day too …. and don’t forget the New Baltimore Lions Club Polar Plunge at 2pm on Anchor Bay … Beer tent & bands all afternoon! If you want to take part next year then you can register at this year’s event already. Make sure you turn up in all the correct gear because someone was turned away today because they had the wrong type of helmet. Take a look at helmethunt to find a helmet that will be right for you.
