What Happens During US Coast Guard Safety Check
Have you been boating and wondered what happens during a U.S. Coast Guard safety check on Lake St. Clair?
After leaving a fantastic brunch at St. Clair Shore’s Zef’s Dockside on our way to take photos in front of the Grosse Pointes one beautiful Sunday, the US Coast Guard came by and asked to board our 26′ Cobia for a routine safety check.
The gentlemen were very nice as they had a checklist of items to ensure our safety.

Things to make sure you have with you to pass a U.S. Coast Guard safety check?
- Driver’s License of Captain
Boat Registration
A working and “up-to-date” fire extinguisher
Life vests for each passenger
Throw Cushion
Ensured head was not discharging overboard
We were approved, provided a written document to share if stopped again by the Coast Guard and were on our way within a few minutes!
